And much more, including making referrals. Our service provides support, crisis intervention and community intervention for residents of and visitors to the Mornington district of the Mornington Peninsula Shire.
Tourism Information
The Centre has a comprehensive computer database of information on the Tourism venues and attractions, together with a large selection of brochures, pamphlets and guides on display. These cover the Peninsula, Melbourne City and most regional areas of Victoria.
Advocacy
The Centre's staff members are trained to act as advocates on behalf of a client when requested to do so. Such advocacy may be with government departments, companies or other third parties where the client prefers to have another person speaking on their behalf.
Budget Counselling
Assistance is available for clients having difficulty in the routine management of their household finances.
Christmas Cards
From mid September until Christmas every year, the Centre sells over 40,000 Christmas cards on behalf of well-known Victorian charities. Use of the Centre's staff and facilities ensures that their cards are retailed at the lowest possible cost and with the maximum benefit to the charities themselves and the general public.
Community Information Database
The Centre has developed and maintains an extensive database of Statewide and Peninsula community information. Click here to search the database
Community Information Directory
From its extensive database, which is compiled in cooperation with Hastings and Rosebud Community Information Centres, a Community Information Directory is produced for the Mornington Peninsula Shire.
Emergency Relief Assistance
The Centre provides Emergency Relief Assistance to those people in the community who find themselves in circumstances of need, poverty or financial crisis due to unforseen expenses. Read more about Emergency Relief Assistance.
Financial Counselling
In conjunction with the Good Shepherd organisation, a professional financial counsellor visits the Centre twice weekly. Appointments are required.
Legal Advice
The Centre has a panel of solicitors who provide free legal advice. Appointments should be made through the Centre.
Needle/Syringe Program
The Centre operates a needle/syringe program as part of the harm minimisation project for blood borne diseases under the auspices of the Needle and Syringe Exchange Program.
No Interest Loan Scheme
The Centre is a participant in the No Interest Loan Network which as its title suggests provides loans on which no interest is payable. Certain conditions apply and appointments are made with the Loans Officer.
Tax Help
From August to the end of December each year, the Tax Help service operates at the Centre where our staff, trained by the Australian Tax Office, provides a free service in assisting people on low incomes to complete their annual tax returns. Appointments are required.
